How to Obtain a Cracked Paint / Rustic Finish
|
I have tried multiple different techniques for obtaining a cracked paint finish for rustic or haunted looks. I have settled on the following as my favorite for old spooky cracking.
Step 1 - Apply a basecoat of Black paint and let dry
Step 2 - Apply a crackel coat paint and let dry, my favorite choice for this is FolkArt Crackle Medium by Plaid. This medium allows you to let the medium dry while others I have used require the medium to get tacky but not dry. When working on a lot of items (shingles for example) it can be extremely difficult to keep up with using an item that can't dry before step 3.
Step 3 - Apply a coat of Gray paint lightly over the surface and let dry. As the paint dries the cracking will appear.
